There's a massive cleaning going on on my bedroom. It's taking me forever coz of the holidays rush and everything, but I'm getting there. I'ts not such a bad thing since I've always like cleaning out my closet and stuff.

Hot water bottle holder for PMS pain

PMS pain is a bitch, isn't it? and even more when it comes in the middle of the night when you're nicely sleep. Something that always works for me is putting a bottle filled with hot water next to my tummy, but sometimes is hard trying to keep it in place while laying down, so I designed this little belt kind of thing to hold it for me.

It dont have one of those rubber hot-cold water bottles, so I use a regular plastic bottle, but this could work for a rubber one too.
And this is how it is done.

Materials:

Plastic bottle (flat ones work best)
Light Fabric (cotton or similar). I'm not sure how much, but aprox 60x60 cm
Thicker fabric for lining
Velcro
Thread
Needle or sewing machine.

Instructions

1. Cut a rectangle that measures
wide: 1.5x the circunference of the bottle (for example, if the bottle it 20cm of circunference, then 1.5x20=30)
long: the high of the bottle plus 10 cm (this also depends of the wide of the bottle, make sure you can cover the bottle with the rectangle)

2. Fold 1cm from both wide sides of the rectangle, wrong side facing, and iron.

3. Now we are going to make the straps. Measure half way between your hips and waist, add about 25cm, substract the long of the rectangle and divide by 2. The result is the long of each strap, and wide will be 16cm.

4. Fold the straps rectangle on half longwise ride sides facing. Sew long side and one small side of each strap. Turn right side out. Iron.

5. Place the big rectangle right side up. Fold wide sides to the center so that they overlap for about 5cm. You have a smaller rectangle. Place it over the thicker fabric and cut another rectangle this size.

6. Almost over. Ok this might sound a bit confusing, but it's not. Place the thick fabric rectangle wrong side up, then the folded rectangle on top. Place the unsewn side of one strap like in the picture. Do the same in the other side.

7. Pin down both raw sides and sew.

8. Turn right side out and you're done! :D

This is the lunch bag I made for myself. I had seen this online some time ago... now I cant find where it came from, but I promise to credit my inspirator as soon as I find out who she is.

It has room for my food container, water bottle and juice bottle. (pic is crappy, sorry)

I've been wanting to make myself a cluth so much recently. Of course, that's one of the 100 things I want to make and still havent found time for. Still I do have time (or make time when bored of homework, like now) to browse some sewins tuts here and there.

Today I found this lovely Pleated Clutch tutorial at crafster made by laurasaurus.

It also looks no complicated to do (let's hope it really is).

I havent forgot the promise I made to my twittr pals about my new lunch bag, I laready started with the drawings :D

How to Hand Sew Buttonholes

I'm generally lazy when it comes to hand-sewing, but when it comes to small things like buttons and buttons holes I rather use my hands than a machine.
Over at Craftstylish Cal Patch has a great photo tutorial on how to Hand-Sew a buttonhole, perfect for either too heavy or too delicate fabrics.

I hope all of those who now start paying attention to mending things, instead of buying new ones due to the actual economy dont forget about it when things wet better!

My First Featuring!

Year before last I posted my Hogwarts Robe-like Shirt on T-shirt surgery and got a request from The Leaky Cauldron Crafts wasking if they could load my tutorial on their website. I said I was thrilled, and told them I just needed to improved it a little bit.
And a few months ago i got a mail saying I could see my project at their site.

I always wanted pleated skirts, but havent buy one since I was little. I made this two from one I borrowed from a friend. I made them about a year or two ago, and now I realiced I made the process so much more complycated than it was, lol.

My Celeste dress in Brown

This is the first Pattern I ever attempted, it's the Celeste dress from Burda Style (sadly no longer free). I have to admit it didnt turn out that bad, even though I had no idea what I was doing unil it began to take shape. I also had trouble with the sizes and it ended out being a little too big in some parts, but htat was fixed with some pinch and pin (thanks ThreadBanger!)

My first Scrapbook

Scrapbooking is not a popular form of crafting in Costa Rica, and I myselfhad never felt attracted to it, as I am not that great with glue, scissors and glitter but this time I made an exception. I made a mini scrapbook for my boyfriend as a christmas gift. I apologize for the crappy-ish pics, but the good camara was broken and this one was running out of batteries.

I printed the pics in a Letter Sized glossy Photo paper on my inject. I used an old organizer I had to hold the pages, and covered it with cardboard and a lovely piece of fabric. I glued some pics but other are just hold by cut I madeo n the pages, so BF can take any of them into his wallet.

Paper CD cases... (Not sewing for a change)

September 9th is Children Day here in Costa Rica. I gave my cousin Sebas (6 months) a set of CDs with my favorite childhood music, and as a special touch I made these simple yet cute Paper CD cases using this tutorial:

I used Letter zised paper and it worked just fine, add a ribbon and some cute stikers or drawings and go!

The Hogwarts Robe-like shirt!

I made this thing last year for Deathly Hallows realeasing night and Order of the Phoenix premier, using an awsome Howgarts Polo I found in a thirft store.. I made a how to by request on T-shirt Surgery, but it was kind of crappy. The folks at The Leaky Cauldron crafts asked to put it on their site, so I wanted to make a better one before that. And now here you have the imporved tutorial.

Note: I made my Robe using a Hogwarts Polo, so it already had the letters and the H. This intruccions are for making a plain black robe.
Ingredients:

1 Black Polo shirt that is too big for you (at least 1-2 sizes bigger).
1 Smaller black polo (big enouogh to make a the hood)
Sissors
Thread
Aprox 1 1/2 m yellow bias tape
Sewing machine (or hand sewing needle if you're not lazy as me)

Instructions:

1. Try on the big Polo and cut like in the picture. Make sure you cut of the neck. DONT CUT THE BACK!!!!

2. Take the small polo and cut a hood shape.
3. Then sew around the pointed line.

4. Pin and sew the hood to the neck of the Robe.
5. Then sew a bias tape all around the +++ lines.

6. Attach a button on one side of the opening and make a hole in the other to hold the Robe closed.

7. (OPTIONAL) If you want to fit the Robe a bit more, attach 2 buttons on the back and then gather with a cord or a ribbon.

And that's it!!! You have a lovely Robe-like shirt!.
